Georgia-Auburn Series
Georgia and Auburn meet for the 112th time in the Deep South’s oldest rivalry that began in 1892. Auburn leads the series 53-50-8. The rivalry is tied with Oregon- Oregon State as the seventh most played series in the country. It is one of 23 in the nation to have reached the century mark in games played. The most played rivalry is Minnesota-Wisconsin, which is at 117 and dates back to 1890. World war has been the only thing that has stopped the Bulldogs and Tigers from playing each year. The squads did not play in 1943 because Auburn did not field a team due to World War II, and there were no games in 1917-18 because of WWI. With those exceptions, Georgia and Auburn have met every year since 1898. In the Georgia-Auburn series, the road team has enjoyed more success. The Tigers are 18-10 in Athens while the Bulldogs are 13-9-2 in Auburn. However, one of the more unique notes about this series involves points. That is, in 111 meetings, Georgia has outscored Auburn by a grand total of 45 points, 1,730-1,685.
Richt Hits 80 Wins In 8 Seasons
Mark Richt became only the sixth head coach who has won 80 or more NCAA Division I football games in his first eight seasons with the Bulldogs’ 42-38 win over Kentucky. His victories in that span include two SEC Championships and 26 wins over ranked teams. Georgia has attended a bowl game every season since Mark Richt took over as head coach and the team’s current streak of post-season appearances stands at 11, breaking the former school record set from 1980-89.
