ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia Lady Bulldogs will initiate a new holiday tradition next week when they provide bicycles for 20 local children through the Boys & Girls Club of Athens.

Each Lady Bulldog player and manager contacted local individuals about donating funds to purchase the bikes. The Lady Bulldog coaching staff purchased helmets to be provided with each bicycle.

The process will now include the team assembling the bikes as a group on Monday, Dec. 17 at 11:30 a.m. in the former Stegeman Coliseum weight room and a party to distribute the gifts on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 4:30 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club on Oconee Street.

Head coach Andy Landers is hopeful the event will continue and grow in future years.

"This is just the beginning of a holiday tradition we intend to continue and expand upon," Landers said. "We thought it was a key element to assemble the bicycles to provide for an even greater sense and spirit of giving for our players and managers."

Footage from the assembling of the bicycles and interviews with Lady Bulldog players will be featured on the UGA Athletic Association's weekly satellite feed on Tuesday, Nov. 18 from 3:30-3:45 p.m. ET. The coordinates for the feed are as follows: Galaxy 17 (KU Band), Transponder 12, Downlink 11940 (V).
