Cordy Glenn made
10 starts on Georgia’s offensive line as a freshman in 2008. The Bulldogs completed the season with
a 10-3 record and with one of the most productive offenses in the nation. This is the first installment of a
series of “Catching Up” with current Bulldogs.
Q: Last year you
came in as a true freshman and earned a starting position. What advantages do you have this year
as a sophomore from your experiences last year?
Glenn: Things
should be easier this year now that I have that experience. I also know what is coming and what to
expect. My fundamentals and
techniques are much better.
Q: Many people
believe that the biggest improvements occur from your freshman to sophomore
seasons. What have you done this
offseason to improve from last year?
Glenn: I’ve been
working on my consistency. I work
hard everyday and make sure I’m not being lackadaisical. I’m pushing myself and hitting the
weight room everyday.
Q: With Trinton
Sturdivant and Vince Vance coming back from their knee injuries and not losing
anyone from the offensive line last year, the depth is considered to be better
than any recent years. What does
this mean for your position?
Glenn: Well,
it’s nice to have the depth. You
also know that you have to push yourself everyday in practice. You can’t afford to mess up because
there is always somebody who can take your spot. Everyone is pushed to get better everyday.
Q: With
quarterback Matthew Stafford leaving for the NFL (No. 1 pick in the 2009 NFL
Draft by the Detroit Lions), senior Joe Cox has worked his way into the
starting role. What level of
leadership have you seen from Cox this summer?
Glenn: Everyone
is working hard and taking responsibility for themselves. Joe is taking on the leadership role
that is expected and everyone is following his lead. Really, there is leadership by committee. The maturity level on this team is much
higher.
Q: If you could
single out anyone as going above and beyond this summer, who would it be? Why?
Glenn: Everyone
is pushing themselves. We have had
100 percent attendance everyday.
Q: What are your
thoughts of traveling to Stillwater, Okla., to play a preseason top-10 Oklahoma
State team in the season opener?
Glenn: It will
be a good experience to play against a good football team like Oklahoma
State. It will also be a humbling
experience to play someone like that.
Q: What do you
feel will be some of the strong points of this year’s team?
Glenn: The
leadership on this team is definitely one of our strong points. The whole team is more mature and we
are all working hard this summer to help reach our goals for the season.
Q: Coach Stacy
Searels is believed to be one of the best offensive line coaches in the
nation. In your opinion, what
makes him one of the best?
Glenn: Coach
Searels is a great coach that doesn’t let you get away with anything. He teaches great fundamentals and
pushes everyone daily to get better.
Q: Last summer
there was the pressure of being preseason
No. 1. This year’s team
comes in with a slightly lower ranking.
What kind of difference does it make not having that added pressure?
Glenn: It really
doesn’t do anything for us. We
know what we want to do to have a successful season. We are working hard right now in the weight room and doing
drills so that we can have a successful season.
Q: Of the
incoming freshmen, which guys have caught your eye this summer?
Glenn: To be
honest with you, they all look good to me.
Q: Coach Searels has been questioned whether you will line up at tackle or guard this year. Do you have a preference of which position?
Glenn: I really just want to play and contribute to the team. It really doesn't matter to me at all.
