ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia Bulldogs (6-4, 4-3 SEC) continued preparations for their upcoming clash with the Kentucky Wildcats (6-4, 2-4 SEC) by holding a two-hour workout Wednesday.

Georgia coach Mark Richt said that the Bulldogs practice went much better compared to Tuesday.

“We weren’t sharp Tuesday, just kind of going through the motions, but today we had a lot more energy,” said Richt. “It was more physical out there and that’s good because it’s going to be a physical game.”

With Kentucky quarterback Mike Hartline sidelined for the remainder of the regular season due to a knee injury, true freshman Morgan Newton is slated to start Saturday. Currently, the Wildcats rank 17th nationally in rushing offense, averaging 203.5 rushing yards per game.

“UK will run it, and even more so now that (Mike) Hartline is out,” said Richt. “I think our defensive line has played extremely well against the run, the linebackers and safeties are doing what they’re supposed to do and tackling better. We’ve done a good job this year against the run and on not giving up a lot of big runs. I’ve been encouraged, and I hope it continues.”

Richt said he is looking forward to Senior Day at Sanford Stadium when the Bulldogs pay tribute to the 23 seniors who will be playing in their final game between the hedges.

“It’s always a great day, I enjoy it on a lot of levels, you feel a little ownership in how they’ve come out,” said Richt.

In reference to senior defensive end Rod Battle who saw his final year cut short after three games due to a knee injury, Richt said he would be all right.

“It’s a special day for all the seniors and it will be bittersweet for Rod because I know he would’ve wanted to play in this game and contribute every week,” said Richt. “He’s been great for Georgia and as a coach, I know he’s going to be fine. He’s going to make it.”

The Bulldogs wrap up the Southeastern Conference portion of their season Saturday when they play host to Kentucky at 7:45 p.m. on ESPN2.
