ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia basketball team suffered its first defeat of the season tonight, falling to the Wofford Terriers, 60-57. It was an exciting game with an exciting finish, but Dustin Ware’s three-point attempt to tie the ball game at 60 as time expired fell short. The loss drops the Dogs’ record to 1-1 on the season (0-0 Southeastern Conference).

"It was a hard fought game," said Georgia head coach Mark Fox. "You have to give Wofford credit. We made a lot of mental errors early that we have not made in practice. We have to be mature enough and gain some experience so that we can relax and stay connected mentally to do what we are trying to do."

Georgia found itself down five with 1:08 left in the game, but sophomore guard Travis Leslie cut that deficit to two as he made a three pointer with 18 seconds on the clock. Down 58-56, the Bulldogs staunch inbound defense forced a Wofford five-second violation turnover, and Georgia found was down two and with possession.

Wofford's Corey Godzinski blocked Georgia sophomore Trey Thompkins’s layup attempt and a jump ball was called, with possession going to the Terriers. The Bulldogs regained possession with six seconds remaining after a Jamar Diggs missed three point attempt, but sophomore guard Dustin Ware could only convert one free-throw after being fouled, cutting Wofford’s lead to 58-57.

Two successful Wofford free throws by Cameron Rundles gave them the lead with three points left, but a creatively drawn play by Georgia coach Mark Fox allowed Dustin Ware to attempt, but ultimately miss, an open three-point attempt for the tie.

Sophomore guard Travis Leslie led the way for the Bulldogs offensively with 17 points on seven of 11 shooting to go along with six rebounds. Thompkins added 14 points and 16 boards, while forwards Chris Barnes and Jeremy Price contributed with nine points apiece. Corey Godzinski set the pace for the Terriers, with thirteen points and six rebounds.

Next up for the Bulldogs is the first road contest of the Mark Fox era as Georgia travels to Birmingham to take on UAB. The game tips at 8:00 p.m. EST and can be seen on CSS or heard on the Georgia Bulldogs Radio Network.
