The Georgia-Auburn Series
The Georgia-Auburn series is the Deep South’s oldest rivalry that began in 1892. The teams will be meeting for the 113th time, and Auburn leads the series 53-51-8. It is the seventh most played series in the country, tying with Oregon-Oregon State.

In the Georgia-Auburn series, the road team has enjoyed more success. The Tigers are 18-10 in Athens while the Bulldogs are 14-9-2 in Auburn. However, one of the more unique notes about this series involves points. That is, in 112 meetings, Georgia has outscored Auburn by a total of 49 points, 1,747 to 1,698.

Georgia has won three straight in the series for the first time since 1982. The last time the Bulldogs won four in a row came in 1948. Starting in 1944, Georgia won five straight in the series and except for a tie in 1949, the Bulldogs reeled off eight straight victories until it ended in 1953. Incidentally, the last time an unranked Bulldog squad faced a ranked Auburn team Georgia emerged with a victory. In 2006, the Bulldogs upset fifth-ranked Auburn 37-15 in Auburn.

A Quick Look At The Tigers
Auburn will arrive in Athens Saturday fresh off a 63-31 drubbing of Furman, and the Tigers occupy the No. 25 spot in the latest USA Today Top 25 Coaches poll. Auburn, under the direction of first year coach Gene Chizik, roared out to a 5-0 start including a win at Tennessee to jump in to the national spotlight. However, a three-game losing streak followed, falling to Arkansas, Kentucky and LSU. The Tigers bounced back with victories over Ole Miss and the Paladins to enter Saturday’s contest with a 7-3 record.

The Tigers rank second in the SEC in scoring offense (35.0 points a game) but last in scoring defense, surrendering 26.6 points a game. Auburn is second in the SEC in rushing offense, averaging 230 yards a game, which trails only Florida (240.7). The Tigers are led by senior running back Ben Tate as he stands in third place in the league with an average of 114.2 rushing yards a game. Meanwhile, senior defensive end Antonio Coleman leads the SEC with 12.5 tackles for loss, and he ranks second in sacks with 6.5. Senior cornerback Walter McFadden is tied for the league lead in interceptions with four.

Junior place-kicker Wes Byrum and Georgia place-kicker Blair Walsh are both 13-for-14 in field goal attempts this season and perfect in PATs. Byrum has kicked the most in the SEC at 43-for-43 while Walsh is 27-for-27.

Green Leading The League In Receiving - Again
Georgia sophomore A.J. Green is building on a successful freshman season and is currently leading the SEC receiving yards per game (91.5) and rec. per game (5.5). His 732 yards ranks second in the league.

Green missed last week’s game with Tennessee Tech due to a bruised lung that happened against top-ranked Florida on Oct. 31. He looks to be back this Saturday against No. 25 Auburn. In last year’s 17-13 road win over Auburn, Green caught the go-ahead touchdown, a 17-yarder from Matthew Stafford with 8:24 left in the contest. He ended up with five catches for 81 yards to lead the Bulldogs. Green’s top performance this season came against Arizona State when he snagged eight catches for 153 yards and a touchdown. It was his fourth career 100-yard game, and he was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week. He also blocked his first career field goal late in the fourth quarter against the Sun Devils to help secure the win.

Also, he had a big game in the road win against the Razorbacks, registering 137 yards on seven catches and a career-high two touchdowns. In 2008, Green led the SEC in receiving yardage, yards per game and tied for first in TDs by receivers. He became the first Bulldog to lead the SEC in receiving since Brice Hunter (59 rec.,799 yds.,7 TDs) in 1994.
