ATHENS-----Georgia senior midfielder Lindsay Stein has been named to the SEC Soccer Community Service Team, it was announced Saturday by the conference office.

The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 20 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.

A native of Littleton, Colo., Stein has been involved with Team United on the University of Georgia campus, where she serves on the leadership committee and works with other student-athletes to minister and disciple around the athletic community. She has volunteered at numerous large and small animal vet clinics and also co-leads a soccer team Bible study and has spoken at several high school and youth groups in the Athens area. Additionally, Stein has been involved in pet visitations at a local nursing home in Athens, where she brings different animals to visit with the elderly. She has also volunteered at several youth soccer camps in Colorado.

“Even though it is hard to find time outside of school and soccer to invest myself in other things, these community service activities have actually taught me so much and been some of my most rewarding experiences at Georgia,” Stein said. “Being a part of the Team United Ministry and helping lead a Bible study on our team has been incredible, and I have made so many friendships going out and sharing my faith to younger kids and teammates. Volunteering at veterinary clinics during the summers has given me really good hands-on experience for vet school, and even though my teammates make fun of me all the time for working with cows and pigs out on the farm, I loved helping out in any way possible.”

Stein returned from a season-ending knee injury suffered in 2008 and has played in all 20 games with seven starts this season. She helped lead Georgia (14-5-1) to its best 12-game start in school history and has guided the Bulldogs to 14 wins for just the fourth time in program history. A biological science major with a 3.91 grade point average, Stein was also named Academic All-District by CoSIDA.

Other members of the SEC Community Service Team include Brooke Rogers (Alabama), Kathleen Paulsen (Arkansas), Addie Ragsdale (Auburn), Marsha Harper (Florida), Julie Hull (Kentucky), Rachel Yepez (LSU), Danielle Johnson (Ole Miss), Leanna Baldner (Mississippi State), Kacie Brewer (South Carolina), Grace Cuenin (Tennessee) and Megan Forester (Vanderbilt).
