“Javi had a great day,” associate head coach Will Glenn said. “This was a hug win for him as Carvalho has beaten some good players. Javi was down a set and was in a situation like yesterday where it could’ve gone either way. He had better composure and that was the difference. It was a big win for him today.”
Garrapiz, ranked no. 38, will face South Carolina’s 28th-ranked Diego Cubas in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Cubas beat Auburn’s Tim Puetz, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, in the round of 16.
The quarterfinals and semifinals will be played Saturday followed by the finals on Sunday.
