NEW HAVEN, Conn.-----Georgia junior Javier Garrapiz rallied for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 win over Texas Tech’s 25th-ranked Raony Carvalho in the first round of the ITA National Indoor consolation draw Friday at Yale University. Carvalho, the Red Raiders’ No. 1 player, was seeded third in the back draw.

“Javi had a great day,” associate head coach Will Glenn said. “This was a hug win for him as Carvalho has beaten some good players. Javi was down a set and was in a situation like yesterday where it could’ve gone either way. He had better composure and that was the difference. It was a big win for him today.”

Garrapiz, ranked no. 38, will face South Carolina’s 28th-ranked Diego Cubas in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Cubas beat Auburn’s Tim Puetz, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, in the round of 16.

The quarterfinals and semifinals will be played Saturday followed by the finals on Sunday.
