PALM SPRINGS, CALIF.-----University of Georgia junior Cameron Ellis picked up wins in singles and doubles in day one of the Duals in the Desert round robin event here Friday.
Ellis posted a 6-0,6-2 win over Northwestern sophomore Elena Chernyakova. Then, she registered a pair of victories in doubles with senior Naoko Ueshima. They defeated the UCLA tandem of Stephanie Hoffpauir and Pamela Montez 8-6, and then they beat the Northwestern team of Stacey Lee and Linda Abu Mushrefova 8-3.
Ueshima dropped her opening singles match, falling 6-2,6-2 to Hoffpauir.
“It was a good first day, and we’re looking forward to continuing the strong start in doubles,” said Georgia coach Jeff Wallace.
Action in the round robin event continues through Sunday.
