The 32-player singles draw includes the 12 ITA regional champions, the four semifinalists from the All-American Championships, one super bowl champion, two host wildcards, one ITA wild card and 12 at-large bids.
“We’re excited Javi has been chosen for this very elite field,” Georgia head coach Manuel Diaz said. “It’s a tribute to all the hard work and good results he’s had this fall. It will be good for Javi to compete against some of the nation’s top players.”
Garrapiz, ranked No. 38, reached the finals of the ITA Southeast Regional earlier this week in Athens. He is 9-3 this fall with two wins over ranked opponents and was co-champion of the Southern Intercollegiates in September.
The ITA National Indoor Championship is the second portion of the Grand Slam. Georgia senior Nate Schnugg won the consolation draw of the tournament last year in Charlottesville, Va. Former Bulldogs Ola Malmqvist and Allen Miller won the doubles title in 1982, and John Isner and Luis Flores captured the crown in 2006.
The ITA National Indoor Tournament begins Thursday, Nov. 5 at 9 a.m., and concludes with the finals Sunday, Nov. 8.
